Warm Homes: Local Grant

What it is

Warm Homes: Local Grant is the England scheme that replaced earlier local-authority programmes. Councils receive funding and deliver energy-efficiency and low-carbon heating measures to eligible homes in their area. Insulation — loft, cavity, room-in-roof, solid wall and underfloor — is a core part of what can be offered. The scheme is running now; GOV.UK publishes delivery statistics and the application route.

Who may qualify

  • Owner-occupiers in England, and in many areas private tenants with landlord agreement
  • Homes with a lower EPC rating, typically D to G
  • Households below an income threshold, on certain benefits, or living in a designated low-income area — councils use one or more of these tests

How to apply

  1. Use the official GOV.UK page to find your council's route.
  2. Complete the council's eligibility check.
  3. If eligible, the council or its delivery partner arranges a survey and installation.

What is not true

  • Your postcode is not “approved” for a grant. Areas can be designated, households are assessed.
  • Nobody can guarantee you qualify before the council has checked.
  • The scheme does not fund foil insulation as a named product.

Questions homeowners ask

Is my council taking part?
Most English councils are, directly or in a consortium. The GOV.UK page routes you to the right one.
Can landlords apply?
In many areas, yes, for eligible tenants, often with a landlord contribution. Landlord routes.
How long does it take?
Councils vary. Expect weeks between eligibility check and survey, and longer for installation.
