How we compare insulation

No universal winner. No scores out of ten. Suitability, trade-offs and evidence, with the sources shown.

Independence

InsulationMatch is not owned by, sponsored by or affiliated with any manufacturer, retailer, energy supplier or government scheme. We do not sell products. Our income is introduction fees paid by installers when a homeowner asks for quotes — see how we make money. Those fees are the same regardless of which insulation route the homeowner chooses, so we have no reason to steer you toward a dearer one.

Suitability, not scores

We do not rank materials. Mineral wool is the best choice on a loft floor and the wrong one under a loft room's ceiling. Multifoil is the reverse. Every comparison on this site describes where a material works, where it does not, and what it costs, so you can match it to your home rather than to a number.

Evidence

  • Building Regulations guidance and government best-practice documents for U-value targets and moisture design
  • Third-party product certificates (BBA, LABC and similar) for declared performance — never manufacturer marketing claims alone
  • Published UK cost guides and installer input for indicative cost bands, replaced by our own anonymised quote data as it accrues
  • GOV.UK and Ofgem for funding scheme status, checked at least monthly

Every guide carries a reviewed date and a source list. See sources and methodology.

What we will not do

  • Tell you your postcode is “approved” for a grant
  • Publish a case study we have not verified
  • Present a manufacturer's figure as independent
  • Rank a product we have not read the certificate for

Your home. Your options. One clear next step.

Free and independent. We show you a likely route before we ask for any contact details.
