Leeds and Bradford's back-to-backs share a ridge with the neighbour and have one open eave; the Pennine towns carry heavy stone slate on old rafters. Both limit what a roof can take and both reward a thin, light quilt when the details are right.

Why foil may not suit others
A post-war semi with a clear, accessible loft that nobody plans to use gets loft roll, not foil. A straightforward cold loft with good access is often more appropriately upgraded with conventional mineral-wool loft insulation than a rafter-level foil system, and we say so when it is.
