Who makes it now
SuperQuilt was developed and sold for many years by YBS Insulation. The brand is now presented by SOPREMA UK as “SuperQuilt (previously YBS SuperQuilt)”, with SuperQuilt Lite and SuperQuilt Trade alongside it, and stockists list an SQ19+ / SQ40 / SQ60 range. People still search “YBS SuperQuilt”; the product they find is SOPREMA's. Confirm the current range and datasheets with SOPREMA before specifying.
What it is
A 19-layer quilt of aluminium foil, foams and wadding, about 40mm thick relaxed and compressing to roughly 7–10mm where it is stapled. Supplied in 1.2m and 1.5m widths by 10m. The outer layers are true aluminium foil rather than metallised film, which the manufacturer and its stockists present as a reflectivity and flame-resistance advantage; the certificate figures are the basis for comparison.
Certification and declared performance
Certified by BBA and BDA, and recognised by LABC and NHBC for building control purposes when installed to the certified build-ups. Stockists recommend a minimum ≈25mm cavity or batten on both sides for the tested performance and note a substantial reduction if a cavity is omitted. The declared fire classification is in the Class E range under BS EN 13501-1; the aluminium outers are described as flame-resistant but the product is not fireproof. Use the current certificate and declaration of performance for numbers.
Applications
- Pitched roofs: warm roof, hybrid or vented build-ups; loft conversions, often alone or with PIR to reach a target.
- Walls: timber or metal studwork, internal linings with a service void.
- Floors: recessed between joists of suspended timber floors, or over concrete in a designed build-up.
- Conservatory roofs and garden rooms.
Installation notes
- Unroll across rafters or studs with slight tension; staple to timbers; overlap and tape all joints with the manufacturer's foil joining tape (roughly one roll of tape per 30m² of quilt).
- Form the ≈25mm spaces on both faces with battens.
- No separate VCL is normally needed on the warm side.

Limitations
- The classic quilt is one thickness; stockists now present thicker SQ40/SQ60 options — check current availability with SOPREMA before relying on them.

- Marketing on stockist sites is combative; use certificates, not comparisons written by retailers.
